Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

09/19/2015 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Josh is a young RHP/OF that will graduate in 2017 with a promising future on the diamond. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level. Arm strength is slightly above average as indicated by his top velocity of 80 mph. Fastball shows a range of 77-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.32 60 time. In the OF, feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls through an aggressive approach. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls and play through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows an athletic / squared setup and he tracks the ball well. Hands are aggressive and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will increase has works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. With 2years to further develop, Josh has an upside on the mound and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

06/06/2015 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Joshua continues to work hard on the diamond. On the bump, this RHP has an effective 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, maintains level shoulders and works in-line toward the dish. FB now ranges from 76-78 mph while breaking ball has 10/4 shape showing 'cutter' type action. Changeup has slight sink as he throws is with FB arm speed. Finishing with more extension out over his front-side will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. With the bat, Joshua shows an open stance with some rhythm to load. Swing is short/compact through a level path as he squares the ball up and hits line-drives. Utilizing more of his lower 1/2 will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Joshua has a lot of upside with still time to develop his skills.

09/21/2014 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Joshua is a RHP/3B with an athletic build. Defensively, he has solid footwork with a clean exchange. Improving on the angles he takes to balls and working low to high will result in a more successful fielding of the ball. On the mound, he has good direction with a smooth delivery. His rhythm and tempo allow him to gain good separation to the plate. Rotating later and creating more momentum will improve his pitching skills. At the plate, he has a strong, balanced swing where he stays inside the ball. Minimizing his high elbow and creating a better path to the ball will improve his swing.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
