05/03/2015 - National Tryout - Lakewood (Denver), CO Joshua continues to develop his skills on the mound. He is mechanically sound and repeats his delivery well. He remains compact and directional toward the dish. FB now cracks the mitt at 80 mph while showing run. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with good action. Changeup is his best off-speed pitch as it has run and will 'drop off of the table' being a solid out pitch. At the plate - Joshua remains balanced and waits for his pitch. Sing is level as he extends well through contact and drives the middle of the field. Thompson is a solid arm who will throw strikes and compete when he toes the rubber.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Josh is a RHP that shows a lot of upside. On the mound, he has a projectable body and a solid presence. He gets to a good balance point and has a smooth tempo. He has a 3 pitch mix that includes a fastball with arm side run, a developing slider, and a change that has good run and sink. He knows how to change speeds well and attacks hitters with all of his pitches. Offensively this switch hitter has a good load, strong balance, and stays in the middle of the field with his approach. Josh uses his lower half well from both sides of the plate and delivers the barrel with good accuracy. He has a good eye at the plate seeing a lot of pitches and tracking the ball well making him a tough out for pitchers.

05/05/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Lakewood (Denver), CO Joshua is a tall, thick, 2-way player who Catches and Pitches. Behind the plate, Joshua has fluid footwork, a low target, and he catches in a low / athletic position. He centers the ball well, his exchange is quick, and he throws with a short / loose arm with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Joshua has a sound arm action, quality mechanics, and he finishes in an athletic position. Offensively, Joshua is equally as good from both sides of the plate. He has a tall set-up, good balance, and a level swing. He has a good bat angle, and gets proper extension through the ball. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Catching
1. Gain ground
2. Blocking angles
Pitching
1. More rhythm
2. Looser actions
Offense
1. More lower 1/2
2. Less armsy swing
3. More direct hands to ball

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
