01/01/2013 - 2013 Baseball Factory Top 100, powered by Under Armour LHH infielder with a clean, rhythmic stroke. Uses the whole field and centers the ball consistently. Sure hands and a quick release defensively.

07/16/2012 - 2012 Team One Midwest Showcase Josh is a lean and athletic shortstop and spends time on the mound as well. In the infield, he has natural instincts and good lateral footwork, with plenty of life on his throws across the diamond. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to create some more glove extension as he plays the through the baseball. At the plate, he has easy actions and quick hands that allow him to display advanced abilities with minimal effort. On the mound, he has fluid motions and good balance, allowing him to maintain a free and easy arm action. His abilities on the mound should continue to develop as he learns to drive with his lower half when he makes his move to the plate. As a 2013 graduate, Josh has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

10/01/2011 - Team One Futures East 2011 VanMeter was among the most well rounded players at this event, solid across the board tools wise. His feet worked well defensively, and his actions were athletic and crisp. Arm action was compact and he was able to carry the ball across the infield with ease, arm strength 40 to 45 on 20-80 scouting scale. Ran 7.16 in the 60 yard dash. His left handed stroke was fluid and loose, and he did a great job of letting the ball travel deep in the zone - was able hit sharp line drives to the opposite field in BP, and stayed back well on a breaking ball for a double to RCF in his third game at bat.

07/18/2011 - Team One Midwest 2011 Joshua is an athletic two-way player at SS and on the mound that will graduate in 2013. Foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 60 time as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active as he is aggressive on his low approach, attacking ground balls while playing through with his body. Lateral movements are a plus as he moves well laterally displaying range. Hands are soft, clean, and sure as he makes all the plays. Throws display life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Offensively is where Van Meter shows best displaying outstanding hitting abilities and tremendous power through an athletic setup. He attacks balls with his hands, generating superior bat speed with strength in his swing. The baseball explodes off his bat showing HR power as he will hit and hit with power at the next level. At the event, he was 2 for 4 with a HR. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 81-85 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays sweeping action with sharp break. Changeup shows solid feel for with fading action. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all of his pitches. With 2 years to further develop, Joshua has the makings to be a special type player at the next level and should be a 2013 draft guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
