08/15/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Uniondale (Long Island), NY Joshua is a skilled, switch hitting 2-way player who excels at the plate. Offensively, he shows slightly more natural from the right side. He maintains centered balance, a solid base and active hands to load. He jumps on pitches he likes, squaring the ball up and driving it on a line. At 1B, he hustles into a square fielding position and tracks GB's. He have the ability to go get the ball and pick it with soft hands. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will help to increase his lateral range. On the mound, Joshua has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and stays directional toward the plate. FB ranges from 63-65 mph while showing arm-side run - 63-65 mph. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with early action. Changeup has slight cut - 55-58 mph. Continuing to develop his arm strength will help to increase velocity on the FB. Only a 2024 grad - Virella still has a ton of time to progress.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
