07/07/2021 - All-In Membership - Richmond, VA Josiah is a switch hitting MIF that shows as a top prospect on the diamond. At the plate, hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) as he squares the ball up consistently driving it on a line. Defensively, he takes a quick first step and has plus lateral range as indicated by his 60 time of 7.29. He creates angles around the GB with fluid actions. DP turns are quick with zip (89 mph velocity) on his throws. Defensive abilities are outstanding as he shows big play potential. With 2 years to further develop, Josiah has a ton of upside and possesses the skill set that will play at a very high level.

01/24/2021 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Ruther Glen (Richmond), VA Josiah continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range and covers ground in the MIF. Throws are accurate with carry (84 mph velocity) but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects best as a RHH. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop.

07/13/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Richmond, VA Josiah is a very talented SS who continues to shine. At SS, he is aggressive coming to get the GB working fluidly right to left. Hands are soft/sure with a quick release to throw. At the plate, this switch hitters shows well from both sides. He takes a hack with quick hands and + bat speed, connecting and hitting consistent/hard line-drives, spraying it to all parts of the field. Seguin has the skills that will make an impact on the diamond.

07/21/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Josiah is a talented SS that showed well in Pirate City. He showed athletic actions in the field with quick and active footwork. He shows a +1st step with agile range to the glove side. He fields the ball athletically and out front getting the glove out and fielding with sure hands. His exchanges are clean as he gets rid of the ball making throws across the diamond with carry. At the plate, Josiah swings it from both sides. He sets up square with high and loose hands keeping his stride in line. He fires the lower half through getting on plane making consistent and hard contact. He shows a good line-drive approach. Josiah is young but showed mature athletic actions on the field that will continue to improve as he grows.

05/05/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Henrico (Richmond), VA Josiah showed improvements at the plate and at SS during his last workout with The Factory. He is a switch hitter with solid skills from both sides of the plate. Josiah has a balanced set-up, a level swing path, and he loads well. He has a short/direct barrel through the zone, and he makes level/consistent contact through. At SS, Josiah improved both fielding and arm strength grades. He has fluid feet, agile movements to the ball, and his hands are soft. He makes plays, has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy from a quick release to his target.

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Josiah is a coachable SS prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. In the field, Josiah shows smooth, efficient footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with sure hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with good carry through his target. Continuing to increase his lateral range can help Josiah improve defensively. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing from both sides. He sets up in a tall stance and takes a soft stride. He is controlled getting his hands activated and drives his lower half through well. He gets good extension and rotates his core well, leading to consistent contact. Josiah can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half through more. With four more years to develop, Josiah has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/29/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Norfolk, VA Josiah is an athletic SS prospect who will graduate in 2023. In the field, Josiah shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He gets into a low position and makes the routine plays. He gains momentum well on his throws and keeps them consistent to his target. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing from both sides. He sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and leads well with his lower half, leading to square contact. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
