10/30/2016 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Josue continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, specifically with an increase in arm strength and blocking behind the plate. His best tool is his blocking as he smothers the ball in the dirt. He has quick feet behind the dish, with good lateral agility to get down and block to both sides. He is quiet to receive, working around the ball to keep it in the strike zone and gets square to throw with a quick exchange and release. At the plate, he shows spray tendencies and the ability to make hard contact with a good feel for the barrel. He is loose in the box with a relaxed setup and uses the whole field to get his base hits. Working on launching from his loaded position and not dropping his hands will lead to more line drive contact and allow his power to play up at the plate. Josue is an intriguing prospect we look forward to watching more as he enters his senior season.

07/29/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Josue is a lean catcher that will graduate in 2017 with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.39 60 time. Behind the plate, feet are quick/active as he works in line through a clean transfer/exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.05-2.15 with accuracy and carry on his throws. Receiving/blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he creates more extension and works to keep hands inside the ball. Mental makeup is a plus as he works hard and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Josue has potential with the makings of a solid player as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
