03/08/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Fresno, CA
In just over a year since we last saw him, JT has shown vast improvements to all aspects of his game - including dropping almost a full second off of his sixty, now running 7.71. Defensively, he works his feet pre-pitch and attacks ground balls, fielding with firm hands. Through securing the ball, he has a clean exchange and throws accurately from multiple slots. Offensively, he hits from a crouched setup and is on-time with his smooth load to get his sequence started. He rotates his lower half well to create torque and has a line-drive approach, consistently squaring up the baseball. On the mound, he threw a four pitch mix - FB 67-71, CB 49-51, SL 53-57, and a CH from 57-60. He showed clean arm action, extending through his release, and rotated to the target to finish smooth. In all - we are very excited to see such growth and continued progression in JT, and can't wait to see what's to come!
12/27/2018 - 2018 Inaugural West Coast Winter Classic - La Verne, CA
JT is a coachable 2B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the West Coast Winter Classic. In the field, JT takes a good first step and gets into an athletic position. He fields the ball out in front of his body and flashes a two-handed exchange. He gets rid of the ball quickly and keeps his throws accurate with good backspin through his target. Smoothening his footwork can help JT improve defensively. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a controlled stride. He is on time getting into a simple load and takes a level swing path. He shows plus barrel control and drives the ball to all fields. JT can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, JT starts with a simple rock step and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing with his chest over his front knee. JT shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 65mph with tailing action. Changeup sits from 49-53mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. JT can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. With four more years to develop, JT has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.
