  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

07/28/2019 - College PREP - West Harrison (NYC), NY JT is a tall, lanky RHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, he displays smooth / clean actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall / athletic setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73 mph. Fastball shows solid tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 59-61 mph with 11/5 shape with gradual break. Changeup sits from 67-69 mph as he maintains arm speed but throws too hard resembling fastball. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. Overall, JT has a lot of potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
