Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Juan continues to shine on the diamond. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will improve as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and late depth. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

04/28/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Phoenix, AZ Juan worked out at 3B and on the mound during his last workout with The Factory. He increased radar velocity to 69 MPH and lowered 60 time to 7.44 seconds. At 3B, Juan covers ground, fields squarely, and keeps the ball in front of his body. He has firm hands, a clean exchange, and throws with a loose arm action across the diamond. On the mound, Juan works quickly, his FB has movement from a low 3/4 arm slot, and he repeats his delivery well. At the plate, Juan has a square/athletic stance, a short stride, and good balance. He flashes some bat speed, hits with strength to the pull side, and uses his lower body.

07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Juan is a strong RHP/3B prospect who showed to be a real team player during his time at the National World Series at Pirate City. On the mound, Juan shows a good rhythm in his delivery and has a solid front side. He has a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 62mph. Breaking ball sits from 57-58mph with 9-3 break. Changeup ranges from 55-56mph. Juan can improve as a pitcher by gathering to a balance point over the rubber and by finishing with his chest over his front knee. In the field, Juan works from the ground up and makes the routine plays. He throws from an over top angle and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Juan can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and gets into his load well. He drives through with his lower half and takes a level swing, leading to some gap to gap pop. Juan can improve as a hitter by working a smoother rhythm into his load. With five more years to develop, Juan has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/05/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Juan is an athletic and talented 2023 2-way player. At the hot corner, Juan fields the ball in an athletic position and with two hands. Continuing to practice game like throws in his throwing program will increase his ability to throw from multiple arm angles and on the run. Presenting a low/early glove and working from the ground up will allow him to make the routine play more consistently as well. At the plate, Juan starts in a tall stance, stays squared in his stride, and loads his hands back into the drive position. He makes creates backspin on the ball and makes consistent hard contact. On the bump, Juan gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and has a loose arm action. Continuing to develop a secondary pitch, such as a change up, will help off set his fastball. Juan will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
