Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

07/15/2018 - Baseball Factory D.C. All Star Experience (Ages 14-18) Juan is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way prospect that made several adjustments throughout the training weekend. At SS, Juan fields the ball in a squared position and creates angles to the ball. He needs to continue to present a low/early glove, work from the ground up, and funnel the ball into his body. Continuing to practice game like throws in his throwing program will increase his ability to throw from multiple arm angles and on the run. At the plate, Juan starts in a squared stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and engage the back hip into his swing. Keeping the barrel on plane with the ball and head down at contact will prevent him from opening up the front shoulder. On the bump, Juan gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and extends thru his delivery. He needs to continue to work north to south and ride the back leg toward the plate to stay directional in his delivery. Juan will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/10/2018 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Juan is a tall built SS/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill set. As a left-handed hitter, Juan has a square setup with a centered balance. He has a short, square stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Juan has a direct swing path and maintains a level barrel through the zone. He is a line drive type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. In the field, Juan works hard and makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in a high position with deep hands. Juan has a loose arm action and the ability to adjust his arm slot depending on the play. He is working to play through the baseball and developing arm strength. On the mound, Juan has a balanced delivery and keeps his eyes on his target. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and stays square to home plate. He can benefit from a longer stride and finishing with his chest over his front knee. Overall, Juan has a projectable skill set and the right attitude to get even better with development.

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Juan is a tall, well-built SS/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill set. As a left-handed hitter, Juan has a tall setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He looks comfortable at the plate and can benefit from rhythm. Juan has a long stride and long swing path. He has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. In the field, Juan shows effective pre-pitch actions and works hard to make the routine plays. He fields the ball with a stiff glove and firm hands. Juan has a long exchange leading into a restricted arm action. He throws from an over the top arm slot and can benefit from playing through the baseball. On the mound, Juan has the frame to pitch and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a stiff arm action and lands closed to home plate. Juan does a have the proper stride length and a controlled landing. He gets decent arm extension at times. Overall, Juan has a great attitude playing the game the right way with potential to advance his skills through development.

10/22/2017 - College PREP - Stillwater (Minneapolis), MN Juan is a long, lanky (6'1/157lbs) two-way prospect who uses his long levers to his advantage. His quick, clean arm action on the mound is critical to his success as it gives his pitches their velocity and break. He works from a high 3/4 arm slot and hides the ball well throughout his delivery. He features a fastball into the upper 50's and complements it with a change of pace curveball that shows 11-5 break. Getting to a consistent balance point will help him keep his arm in sync with his body and lead to more control. At short, he has active feet and gets into a good fielding position, working from the ground up with his body square to the ball. He has soft hands to field and has a clean exchange to make accurate throws. At the dish, this lefty shows a patient approach with the ability to use all fields. He shows a good understanding of the strike zone and lets the ball travel to put a good swing on any pitch thrown to him. Juan is a young 2-way player who still has a ton of time to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
