Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Juan is a hardworking, coachable LHP/OF who is willing to make adjustments to be the best he can be. He shows sound mound presence and mixes pitches well. Fastball showed good arm side run with a 1/7 breaking ball. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. Range will improve as he increases his foot quickness. At the plate, he displays an athletic setup. Hands are loose and make consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Power grade will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. At the event, he was 3 for 6. Juan has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with baseball abilities.

09/06/2015 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Juan is a southpaw 2-way player with a lean frame. On the mound, Juan throws from the 3/4 arm slot with arm side sink and mature command of all 3 pitches. His FB sits in the high 70s, CB resembles 2-8 action in the high 60s and CH sits in the low 70s. A strict long tossing program and continued work on his secondary pitches will improve his command and velo. At 1B, he works to field the ball out front with a smooth transfer on the DP. He gloves all balls with great pickability around the bag. At the plate, Juan is a LHH with an open stance and simple swing. He hits with consistency to the pull side and with added lower 1/2 strength and continued work on his stride/load, he will see more gap to gap hits with power. Overall, Juan is a talented player entering his junior year with a solid set of tools.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
