09/10/2023 - National Showcase - Thousand Oaks, CA Juan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.12 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry (85 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared, athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-79 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving stock on the mound.

07/28/2023 - Baseball Factory National World Series at JRTC (HS) Juan continues to shine with his baseball abilities on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry (85 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate and is very coachable on the field.

11/18/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Fall Prospects Tournament (HS) Juan is an OF/RHP who will graduate in 2024. Medium frame, with thick lower, and athletic build with strength to the build and room to develop. In the OF, shows active footwork and ability to cover ground. Good 1st step reads enable him to work through the ball. Long arm action in back working into a high 3/4 arm slot coming forward, with accurate/on-line throws, and an arm velocity of 80mph. A right-handed pitcher, works with good tempo and separates on time. Throws a FB that sat 76-78mph with some movement in the zone. Mixed in a CB with 10/4 shape. Induced soft contact in live game action and threw lots of his pitches for strikes. A right-handed hitter begins with an athletic and even stance. On-plane barrel path who made consistent contact into both gaps. With continued growth and development, we foresee Juan having a bright future on the baseball field.

06/20/2022 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (HS) Juan continues to show improvements on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.28 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate with online carry (80 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap to gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/12/2021 - All-In Membership - San Bernardino, CA Juan is a OF/RHP in the class of 2024 out of California. Defensively, he displayed efficient footwork by being able to flip his hips and gain ground on the baseball while trying to work through/behind to make consistent throws to his target. Offensively, he uses a sqaure set up with a short stride and smooth timing to work a line drive approach and make hard contact to the middle and pull side. On the mound, he exhibited decent mechanics with the ability to repeat delivery and hide the baseball well. His fastball had slight tail topping out at 74 mph and he backed it with a slider at 67 mph and a curveball that had good tunneling action which played at 65 mph. Juan is an athletic prospect who will continue to improve his game on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
