09/03/2011 - Accelerated Infield Weekend (Pre-High School) Julian did a real nice job for us at camp. He shows the body control and athleticism to be a good infielder in the future. He takes sound routes and approaches to ground balls and the ability to move through the ball correctly. We like the way that he is aggressive to the ball and does not show any fear of the ball. We would recommend continued agility work to help him continue to improve the quickness and control of his feet. One area that Julian must really work on is playing from the ground up. He has a strong tendency to get his glove down to around his shins but not get it all the way to the ground. He must work to make sure that he gets his chest down between his knees and gets the glove all the way down to the ground so that he can field from the ground up. Another part to this is that he tends to be a little late in starting to break down which at times makes it difficult for him to get the glove all the way down even if he wanted to. Improving in this area will help him greatly. Lastly he shows good body control and the ability to throw from different arm angles which is key for any infielder. We would like to see him continue to work to smooth out his double play feeds and pivots. This becomes more and more important the more he advances in the game of baseball. For a middle infielder it is imperative that they become proficient at this skill.
