11/13/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Jose, CA JJ continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and have a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Fastball shows a range of 78-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, shows a good feel for pitch with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as a quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper foot work around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is sure and presents out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry (82 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

03/13/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Jose, CA Julian continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting / power potential is now outstanding through a crouched setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing as he transfers weight from the backside into a firm front. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Julian has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 12-14) Julian is a broad two-way prospect who is always looking to improve. He can deliver the barrel to the ball consistently and make hard contact for base hits. He loads his hands to a power position and strides on time. Bat path is direct to the ball with a strong lower half to generate bat speed. At first, he has efficient footwork around the bag and centers the ball to field. He has a clean exchange to throw and makes accurate throws around the diamond. On the bump, he shows a FB/CB mix, working aggressively in the zone and pitching to contact. The fastball has sink at 60mph and the curve has 10-4 break. More use of his lower half will increase velocity. Julian is a talented player with a lot to like in his game.

05/20/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Redwood City (San Francisco/San Jose), CA Julian is an athletic, talented, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1B. On the mound, Julian has a clean arm action, he stands over the rubber well balanced, and he gets good extension on his pitches. He separates on time, has a controlled landing toward home, and competes in the zone with his pitches. At 1B, Julian has quick feet, agile movements, and soft hands. He has good range, a quick/clean exchange, and throws with accuracy from a short arm action. Offensively, Julian has an athletic set-up, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes hard contact, the ball jumps off of his bat, and he uses his lower body. Julian can continue to get better with work on the following.

1. More lower body
2. Avoid drifting
3. Long toss
Defense
1. Throwing
2. Fielding position
Offense
1. Level swing
2. Timing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
