Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

12/27/2009 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2009 Justin participated in the UA Recruiting Classic as both a RHP and OF. He shows the ability to play both positions at the next level. On the mound, Justin has good athleticism, mound presence, and pitchability. He has good rhythm, balance, and an easy arm action. Justin has good off-speed pitches and can throw them all for strikes. With more lower 1/2 explosion, Justin can further improve on the hill. In the OF, Justin has good hands, feet, and a strong / accurate arm. He takes good routes to the baseball, and his body is well suited for the OF position. Offensively, Justin has a good base and gets solid rotation. He has good balance, bat speed, and has pop in his bat. With looser actions and more use of his strong lower 1/2, Justin can further improve at the plate.

11/01/2009 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Justin is a tall, lean, RHP, with a very projectable body. He stands 6'5'' and allows his height to work in his favor. Justin has a solid downhill plane, and loose arm action. His FB has some cut, 2 planes, and ranged from 79-81 MPH. Justin's CB has 12-6 shape and tight spin. He has good command of his CB, and also gets good extension. Justin also has a CH and SL in his arsenal, which are both well above average pitches. If Justin can continue to keep the ball on top, and drive off the rubber with his lower half, we could see his velocity improve. He can throw all 4 pitches for strikes, and has the body to compete at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
