07/27/2022 - Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Justin continues to show as a top prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities at the SOUTHWEST 17U TOURNAMENT. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.38 runner. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.00 with accuracy / carry (84 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and has great knowledge of the game. He works hard on the field with a lot of energy.

10/27/2021 - Baseball Factory Best of The West - Upperclass Justin continues to show as a prospect at the Best of the West tournament. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt, tracks ball well and sticks pitches in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times showing in the 2.21 range with accuracy / carry (89 mph velocity) on his throws. Offensively, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel explosion with the ball screaming off his barrel. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

09/19/2021 - All-In Membership - San Bernardino, CA Justin is a C/RHP who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame stout build with strength present and room to add muscle. At C, he has an easy sit and efficient feet. Presents a low target for pitchers and works thumb under with a loud mitt. Works with good direction towards second base and has a clean exchange. Long/loose arm action into a high 3/4 release point with accurate/on-line throws to second base. Arm velocity was up to 79mph, with good carry, and a best pop time of 2.1 seconds. On the mound, showed good rear hip coil and works down the mound towards target. Has a loose/quick arm with ability to plane out. Throws 4 pitches out of the same window. Attacks hitters with a FB that topped out at 79mph, a 12/6 breaking ball that is a swing and miss pitch, a slider with same shape, and a developing changeup that flashed good sink. FB was best pitch during his bullpen. A right-handed hitter, he hits from an athletic and even stance. He tracks pitches well while keeping his hands inside the baseball. He hits into a firm front side and has a fast bat through the hitting zone. Hit hard line drives into both gaps during his round of BP with a bat exit velocity up to 93mph. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we see this 2-way prospect having opportunities to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
