10/26/2023 - Baseball Factory Best of The West - Upperclass Justin is a 2025 C/RHP from Selah, WA who showcased his skills during the BF Best of the West Tournament. Behind the plate, he has an easy sit, with athletic actions, and good agility. Works with good direction towards second base as he replaces his feet and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Throws were consistently on the first base side of bag with a recorded an arm velocity up to 87mph and a best pop time of 2.09 seconds. Shows a good spine angle on his blocks. On the mound he has a confident demeanor with some feel for pitching. He attacks hitters with a FB that topped out at 80mph with plus command, and an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with good depth. In live game action, Justin worked 5 innings of 3-hit ball and punched out 5 batters. At the plate he hits from an athletic and square stance with comfortable hands. He shows a fast barrel through the hitting zone with natural juice in his swing. During the tournament, he reached base four out of seven at-bats with 2 triples, a double, and single. Justin is coachable, works hard, hustles, and is a team player. Justin showed good athleticism on the mound and behind the plate with room to improve in all facets of his game. With continued growth and development, Justin should have opportunities to play at the next level.

08/26/2023 - National Showcase - Spokane, WA Justin is a C/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2025. Medium frame athletic build with strength present. At C, he has active feet and presents a low target. Good lateral movement, with good blocking angles, and centers the baseball. Works thumb under, with a quick exchange, into a 3/4 release point with accurate/on-line throws to second base. Arm velocity was up to 90mph and his best pop time was 2.03 seconds. On the mound, he separates his hands on-time and has a clean arm stroke. Throws a FB that sits 80-81mph with plus command arm side run, a 10/4 shaped breaking ball, a slider from the same window, and a developing changeup. A right-handed hitter, he hits from a crouched and open stance. Shows quick hands and an explosive bat through the hitting zone. He hit hard line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 87mph during BP. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we see Justin having opportunities to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
