07/09/2019 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Justin Cooper is a lean, athletic OF/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.25. In the OF, he utilizes his feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate he continues to shine, displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a short / direct / level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, displaying gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74 mph. Breaking ball sits from 64-65 mph with 11/5 shape with gradual break. Changeup sits from 68-70 mph. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. With 3 years to further develop, Justin has the makings of a special type player with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
