06/14/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Florida Justin just hit at the event. This righty stands in well with fluid rhythm to load as he gets good hand separation maintaining leverage throughout the swing. He whips the barrel with speed and connects with power with the ball exploding off of his barrel (exit velocity = 91 mph). A 6.6 runner - this leadoff type is a threat with his speed. He has a very bright future ahead of him.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Connell ran 6.61 in the 60 yard dash in Arizona, an improvement of more than a half second since we last saw him in July 2015 in Georgia. He again showed an interesting combination of bat speed, strength and leverage that resulted in numerous deep drives to the LCF gap in both BP and game at bats. His stroke is short and quick to contact, and he can accelerate the barrel through the hitting zone for very loud contact. Defensively, he was efficient to move his feet upon reaction to the ball off the bat, and was solid with his hands upon receipt. He took good angles to the ball and was able to create some momentum through to the target. He has room to develop his arm strength and overall catch & throw skills, at which point he could fit a variety of profiles. Overall, a naturally talented offensive player with bat speed and a stroke built for power production.

07/10/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National East Connell had an outstanding showing at the event at 3B with the makings of a special type player as he continues to improve his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.25 runner. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating tremendous bat speed through a direct / level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. The baseball explodes off the bat when centered, creating back spin. He will hit and hit with power at the next level. At the event, he was 2 for 4. At 3B, feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he shows big play potential. Justin will get looks from the top collegiate coaches and pro scouts with his abilities.

09/20/2013 - 2013 Under Armour Fall Classic - Underclass Participant 9/22/13 - Talented defensive player with quickness in his lateral movements, allowing him to show good range. His hands worked well, and he showed arm strength and good body control. Soild left handed stroke.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
