06/14/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Florida Justin continues to impress. This switch hitting backstop has the all-around skill-set that is exciting to watch. At the plate, he maintains an athletic/balance setup with rhythm to load. He whips the barrel with plus bat speed and connects with pure power - driving the ball to the deep parts of the park. Behind the dish, he frames well sticking pitches. Lateral movements are quick as he surrounds pitches in the dirt and centers the ball off of his chest. Transfer is smooth with zip on his throws to the 2B bag. Justin has a very very bright future ahead of him in the game.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Cooke stands at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds with a strong look. A switch-hitter, he made more natural passes right-handed where he showed the ability to accelerate the barrel through the zone, and appeared to have instinctual hand-eye coordination and ability to put the barrel on the ball. The ball got off his bat well from the left side as well, and he was able to get the ball in the air with ease. He didn't find the barrel as often left-handed and didn't have as much bat speed, but the move was mostly solid and projects to work in the future. Behind the plate, he featured a strong and accurate arm and posted release times between 1.87 and 1.94 in the workout. He sat well and was able to move from a crouch to block balls in the dirt. Overall, an interesting prospect behind the plate with a potential high level bat from both sides of the plate.

11/07/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures Texas Justin has a great profile as a physical, switch-hitting catcher and boasts top level tools as well. As a hitter, he swings it well from both sides, with his LH stroke a smooth, fluid move to and through the ball resulting in hard contact. He flashes power from both sides and has good bat-to-ball skills each way. Behind the plate, his durable frame has enough flexibility to allow him to sit well and his hands are strong and sure. He has a high baseball IQ and the look of the type of leader you want at that position. He smoked a 3B in game play and had quality at bats showing that the tools translate. This is an interesting catching prospect to watch.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
