Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

10/19/2022 - Arizona Easton Fall Classic - Upper Class (2023-2024) Justin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.01 runner. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with carry (81 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and works through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 78-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

05/22/2022 - All-In Membership - Parker, CO Justin is a 3B/RHP who will graduate in 2023. Tall frame athletic build with strength present and room to add throughout. In the infield, he works from right to left and showed ability to cover ground in all directions. He fields from an athletic fielding position, with a low funnel, and active feet throughout fielding process. Made accurate and on-line throws to first base with good momentum towards his target. On the mound, he has long levers and a projectible frame. Works with good tempo and showed athletic actions. He gathers over the rubber, with a clean leg lift, and accelerates his arm to release point. He rotates to his target and takes the proper stride length to plate. A 3-pitch pitcher who attacks hitters with a FB that topped out at 80mph, an 11/5 shaped breaking ball that flashes good depth, and a changeup with good sink that he throws with FB arm speed. FB was best pitch during his bullpen session. At the plate, he hits from a tall and closed stance. Quiet head enables him to track pitches well and hits ball where it is pitched. A short barrel path enables him to hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 80mph. With another year of growth and development, we foresee Justin having a bright future on the baseball field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
