09/19/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures East Last September, Farmer ran 7.01 in the 60 yard dash. This year, he ran 6.86 and showed significant physical maturity — such that he now has obvious present strength with a defined look on his athletic 6-foot-2 frame. His right-handed stroke was strong through the zone, allowing him to impact the ball with authority. He stood out defensively in the outfield, where he moved with ease after a definitive first step — a combination that allowed him to cover a lot of ground when added to his naturally advanced reaction to the ball off the bat. His arm was accurate and after a clean release. Overall, a talented all-around player with usable field and hit tools.

09/20/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures East Farmer has athletic proportions with room to fill out at 6-foot and nearly 190 pounds - he has a thin waist with long limbs and width to his shoulders. His tools are well rounded, and without a glaring deficiency - rare for a young player. His actions are naturally easy and explosive, both defensively and to hit. He is a quick twitch athlete, and this shows up more in the things he does with his hands than it does in his foot speed. He is extremely quick with his hands to contact at the plate, and works the barrel thru the zone with looseness and life. His approach is simple, and he maintains good balance to hit. As he gets stronger he'll start to see more raw power. Defensively, his first step is quick and he moves with purpose. He spins the ball well, and his throws carry with life thru the target. Overall, he's a top player in the 2017 class with standout present ability and projectable future tools.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
