01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Flores has really improved his baseball abilities since the last time we saw him. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, feet are quick / aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Behind the plate is where he has improved the most. He utilizes his quick feet well in working in line to his target through a quick transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He threw his best pop times to date, now showing as an outstanding catch / throw guy at 1.90. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, hitting / power grades have also improved through an aggressive approach. Hands are quick, generating outstanding bat speed and he shows a plus feel for the barrel with baseball explosing off his bat when centered.

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Justin showed similar defensive skills and some offensive improvements during the Pre-Season All-America. He raised his hitting and power grades from 50 to 52 and 52 to 55 respectively. Justin has quick hands, good bat speed, and a solid / athletic set-up. He has a level swing, good barrel accuracy, and the ball jumps off his bat well. Defensively, Justin has playable hands and feet and goes back on the ball well. He is aggressive to the ball, he makes plays, and has a long arm action with carry to his target. Justin is an athletic OF with a bright future.

11/14/2010 - National Tryout - Fresno, CA Flores continues to show as a solid player and displayed similar abilities as we have previously seen. Feet are quick and athletic as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum into his target. Throws display carry and accuracy into his target but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Offensively, Justin shows a solid set up with hands maintaining bat speed to and through the baseball at contact. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power is best to the pull side as he tends bar his lead arm at times.

07/17/2010 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Justin is a young, tall, lean, OF with solid baseball skills. He is a reliable OF who reads the ball well off the bat and makes plays. He has soft / sure hands, he works to get behind the ball well, and he gets good extension on his throws. Justin delivers the ball accurately with come carry to his target. If Justin can add arm strength and work to throw on a downhill plane, defensive grades can improve. Offensively, Justin has quick hands and good bat speed. He is direct to the ball, he gets proper extension, and the ball jumps off the barrel of his bat. Justin can work the ball gap to gap, and with a wider base and better lower 1/2 rotation, solid offensive numbers could get even better. Overall, Justin is a young, talented OF with a bright future.

03/21/2010 - College PREP - Carson, CA Justin is a young two-way player in the OF plus as a catcher with a tall, lean frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed is a plus as he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He needs to work on getting behind more to play through with momentum to target. Throws show life, carry and accuracy as he displays to extension. Behind the plate, pop times show a range of 2.25-2.41 with a means of 2.29. Receiving and blocking skills flash potential of being quality tools with further development. Offensively is where Flores shows best through a solid, sound approach. He loads well and attacks the baseball with his hands. Bat speed is a plus as he maintains through the point of contact. He shows a solid feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. With 2 years to further develop, Justin has the makings to be a solid player at the collegiate level and will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
