11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Justin is a lean SS/RHP that will graduate in 2016. At SS, feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. He moves well side to side, displaying range. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to attack balls more, play through while presenting hands more out front, and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the baseball quicker. At the plate, French shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a direct swing path. He displays an aggressive approach and makes consistent hard contact. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-69 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break as he needs to work to stay on top of pitch. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard. With 4 years to further develop, Justin has abilities with time and room to improve.
