12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Justin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved, now showing well above average as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. He displays a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break and shows potential as being a quality pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sinking action. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters throwing strikes with all his pitches. He shows good composure and competes on the mound. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he has improved his hitting abilities and power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 8 with a HR. In the OF, he communicates well with other outfielders. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in working to get behind balls. Range is a plus as he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, works hard, and is a great teammate.

07/06/2016 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Justin is an interesting/young prospect who has a solid all-around skill-set. As an outfielder, he shows good athleticism getting to balls and playing through to get himself in a good throwing position. He fields the ball with sure hands and shows off his accurate arm throwing to his target. On the mound, Justin features a three pitch mix, primarily relying on his fastball that has good sink and changeup that is deceptive and has late run. He does a good job of staying directional to the plate which allows him to throw more strikes. Getting more lower half drive will get his backside in sync with his front and lead to a more velocity and even better command. Justin will be fun to watch progress in the coming years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
