Official Scouting Report

  • 5Class Rating
  • C/2BPosition Projection

06/03/2018 - College PREP - Folsom (Sacramento), CA Justin is a C/2B graduating in 2019. At second base, Justin shows a pre-pitch routine and active feet that give him agile range when making plays in the hole. He displays an athletic fielding position, presenting his hands out front and making quick exchanges into a short arm action (3/4 arm slot). He makes accurate throws on a line through a quick release. Justin can improve at second base by attacking ground balls harder. Behind the plate, Justin shows quick feet that give him agile range to make difficult plays. He displays an athletic fielding position, receiving with soft hands while sticking pitches and getting to his knees to quickly block balls in the dirt. He makes clean exchanges into a long arm action (3/4 arm slot), throwing the ball accurately on a line using his bodys momentum. Justin can improve behind the plate by staying in his legs when throwing to a target. Offensively, Justin swings from both sides of the plate and shows a gap-to-gap, contact type approach. Justin displays quiet movements as he shows an athletic set up and a square stride to the ball. He shows a good back side hand load with fluid, smooth rhythm and a strong center balance. Lower half stays through with a firm front half and explosive bat speed. His swing path is direct and on-plane as he makes consistently hard contact. Justin is a talented player than can play at the next level with some fine tuning.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
