09/02/2018 - National Tryout Plus - San Francisco, CA Justin continues to show as a prospect on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.15 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft / clean with setup improving as he improves his flexibility. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering all balls out front.

12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Justin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.19 with carry / accuracy on his throws. Feet work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He sits low and presents a soft / sure glove, sticking balls in the zone. Athletic abilities are shown off through the blocking process but will benefit by getting body down sooner. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

10/29/2017 - College PREP - Santa Rosa, CA Justin is an athletic and young 2021 catching prospect. Behind the dish, Justin has an athletic set up, presents a low target and works behind the ball well. His footwork and quick exchange allow him to get into a strong position to throw. At the plate, Justin has a tall and balanced stance. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and getting extension through contact will allow him to keep his middle approach at the plate. Justin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/29/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Justin is a hard working team player who is willing to play anywhere on the field. He has a very strong arm behind the plate with a clean exchange and quick release to lead to good pop times (2.52 seconds). He blocks well with quick feet getting down to the ball and deadening it in front. He also has good lateral movement with quick, agile feet. Softening his hands to receive will allow him to stick more pitches for strikes. At the plate, his setup is solid and square with a good stride back towards the pitcher. He has a compact swing directly to the ball and stays on a level plane, hitting line drives gap to gap. Justin is a solid young player who we look forward to watching continue to improve.

02/21/2016 - National Tryout - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Justin continues to progress nicely on the diamond. Offensively, he has an athletic setup with good balance. He gets loaded, swings on a level path and uses the entire field. Behind the plate, he sits in low and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. Transfer/exchange is clean - pop times now at 2.56. At 1B - Justin has quick footwork moving well laterally. He gets into a square fielding position and gathers well. Presenting his glove and fielding the ball more out in front will help to avoid getting the in-between hop. Only a 2021 grad - the future looks bright for Justin as he continues to get stronger and develop physically.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Justin is an athletic backstop who works hard day in and day out. Behind the dish, he sits in well and tracks pitches into a soft/sure mitt. He maintains a firm wrist and stick pitches in the zone. Lateral footwork is quick as he centers pitches off of his chest, smothering the ball and keeping it in front. Transfer/exchange is smooth with accurate throws down to 2B - pop times now at 2.58. Gaining more ground to 2B and using his lower 1/2 more in the throw will help to get more into it. As a hitter - Justin shows active hands and works back into a strong loaded position. He barrels the ball up consistently and drives it on a line, using the opposite field well. Continuing to develop strength will help to take his skills to the next level. Justin is a hard worker who will only continue to improve. He has a bright future ahead of him.

10/18/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Santa Rosa, CA Justin continues to work hard on his game. Behind the dish, he sits in well with a solid base and flexion. He works smoothly around pitches in the dirt and centers the ball off of his chest. Exchange is clean as he works in-line toward 2B - pop times now of 2.63. Gaining more ground and staying low to throw will help to lower pop times. At 1B, Justin shows quick footwork hustling into a square fielding position. He is sure handed and can pick it. Developing his footwork/agility will help to increase lateral range and improve his skills at 1B. As a hitter - this righty shows rhythm to load. Swing is level & repeatable to and through the zone as he connects and drives it to all parts of the field. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path with increased bat speed will result in more pop off of the barrel. Only a 2021 grad - Justin still has a ton of time to work on and develop his tools.

09/06/2015 - Interactive Video Program - San Francisco, CA Justin is a R/R 2-way player as a C/1B. With the bat, this righty shows a square setup with good balance He swings on a level path and works to engage his lower 1/2 throughout the swing. Behind the dish, Justin sits in well, presents a low target and tracks pitches into his mitt. He is quick around pitches in the dirt and centers the ball off of his chest. Exchange is clean as he makes accurate throws down to 2B (pop times of 2.91). Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Shorter/more direct swing path
2. Contact points
3. Extension through contact
Catching
1. Transfer/exchange
2. Arm strength (long toss)
3. Blocking technique

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
