06/22/2012 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2
While in Omaha, Justin showed a lot of improvements since we first saw him earlier this year. He worked out both behind the plate and at 1st base during his time in Omaha. As a catcher, Justin has fluid actions, he blocks and receives well, and his exchange is quick and clean. He has a good arm with accuracy to 2nd base and does an outstanding job on foul pop ups. At 1st base, Justin has good lateral range, he keeps the ball in front, and he makes plays consistently. Offensively, Justin has a good set-up, nice bat speed, and pull side pop. He swings at good pitches, he gets late explosion through the ball, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. He was one of the best hitters at the event and got better with the bat as the event went on. Justin is a hard worker and should be a good player at the next level.
03/04/2012 - College PREP - Greenville, SC
Justin is a tall, solid C/1B that will graduate in 2013. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works in-line to his target through a long release. Pop times show a range of 2.21-2.55 with accuracy on his throws. He needs to speed up his transfer / exchange and build more arm strength to continue to lower pop times. Receiving / blocking skills show potential as being playable tools but needs further development / instruction. At 1B, he displays solid footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver, showing clean hands. At the plate, McArthur shows a balanced approach with hands working through a short, direct path to the ball. Swing path gets long as he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields and improve hitting grades. The baseball jumps off his bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level.
