On the mound, he shows a controlled / repeatable delivery that all his quick arm action to work well to the plate. He shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late / sharp break and shows as an outstanding pitch. He maintains arm speed with slight sink. Control is excellent as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.01 60 time. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line carry (86 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. With 2 years to further develop, Justin has potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.
Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
