07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Vero Beach (Ages 14-18)
Justin continues to show as a 1B/LHP but currently projects best at 1B for the next level. He attacks ground balls and plays through well, presenting clean hands. Hands / feet are fluid and work well through the fielding process. He consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are loose to and through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he learns to keep his hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed range of 68-71 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker, plays with a lot of energy, and is very coachable.
06/09/2013 - College PREP - Troy (Albany), NY
Justin worked out at both 1B and on the hill during his last workout in Albany, NY. Defensively, Justin has a good approach, hands are soft, and feet are active. He moves well around the bag, his exchange is quick, and he throws with accuracy from a short arm action. Defense can improve by fielding further out front and adding arm strength. On the mound, Justin has a long / loose arm, a controlled balance point, and he hides the ball well. He has good direction toward home, lands on the balls of his feet, and finishes completely. Getting on top of his CB, better separation, and not opening up early will help pitching improve. Offensively, Justin has an open stance, a level swing path, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. A better load, letting the ball travel, and increased bat speed can spike hitting.
07/22/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 4
Justin is a young, lanky, 2-way player who plays 1B and LHP. Defensively, Justin has some pre-pitch action, decent hands, and he moves well around the bag. He knows where the bag is, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy to his target. More sure hands, playing lower, and fielding out in front will help defensive skills improve. On the mound, Justin has a controlled balance point, he stays over the rubber well, and his FB touches 70 mph. He bends his back, but will need to avoid landing open, improve his glove lead, and add arm strength in order to improve mound effectiveness. At the plate, Justin has a good setup, his swing path is level, and he keeps a tall backside. He will need to quicken his hands, get his front foot down sooner, and improve his balance in order to raise hitting grades.
