03/09/2012 - Yankees Spring Training Experience
Justin made progress while at the Yankee Spring Training event. On the mound he fielded his position well; he threw strikes and displayed repeatable mechanics. He has a tendency to be late with his separation and he needs to finish in-line to his target. Behind the plate Justin needs to really focus on the basic fundamentals of catching. More specifically he needs to have a more athletic set-up, better form blocking/receiving and overall polish his fundamentals. Again at the plate Justin is raw and needs to focus on the basic fundamentals of hitting. For example, he needs a more athletic set-up, develop a smooth stride/load and use his lower half more. Justin has the ability to be successful in the future, especially on the mound, if he continues to work hard and make the adjustments necessary.
09/17/2011 - Accelerated Pitching/Catching Weekend (Pre-High School)
Justin has a very smooth arm action. His smooth/loose arm allows him to throw effortlessly. To improve velocity Justin needs to work on loading his weight on his backside in the balance position and then fire it explosively toward the target. With his very smooth delivery and loose arm Justin has a lot of potential. If he loads his weight more effectively and then builds explosion with his backside he can reach that potential.
Drills: Balance Drills, Mechanics Warm-Up, Hat/Towel Drill, Long Toss.
