Official Scouting Report

02/18/2022 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - East) Justin is a RHP who will graduate in 2023. This talented and athletic right-handed pitcher shows good mechanics and feel for the game on the mound. Threw his entire arsenal from a ¾ arm slot with good tempo. He showed the ability to fill up the strike zone consistently and landed over 50% of his pitches for strikes. His fastball sat in the 89-92 MPH range, while he used both his curveball with 10-4 shape and his changeup with some depth to keep hitters off balance. Created weak contact often and did a very good job of challenging hitters and pitching to contact, which allowed him to work more efficiently. Already committed to Rutgers, Justin will be one to watch the rest of his high school career as he works to attract attention from professional scouts as well.

08/15/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Uniondale (Long Island), NY Justin is a tall, solid 1B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present earlier and more out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. With 3 years to further develop, Justin has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
