Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Justin is a physical 6'3" prospect with 2-way potential as a LHP and 1B. On the mound, he uses a low 80s tailing fastball to get ahead of hitters - preferring to throw it down and away to RHH. He mixes in a rolling curve to keep hitters honest, but his most effective offering is a change-up that has late tumble. The arm speed and action are very effective. As a hitter Justin has a quick, slashing LH stroke that generates bat speed and some pop. He is also very comfortable around the bag at 1B, provides a very good target and has sure hands. There is still plenty of upside in this 2016 grad.

10/28/2015 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Justin is a tall/athletic 2-way player with a bright future ahead. On the bump, Justin throws with ease. His ball shows life out of his hand with the ability to fill up the zone quickly. His FB sits in the low to mid 70s and he displays an 11-5 CB in the high 60s and a 63mph CH. At 1B, he works around the bag with his projectable, mobile frame. As he fields, he works to play through the ball and tries hard to get the good hop. At the plate, this LHH gets his hips and hands to and through the ball with authority. Justin's swing projects well at the next level and displays serious power to all fields. Overall, Justin is a talented player with great baseball IQ, positive energy and the drive to succeed at the next level.

10/11/2015 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Justin is a 2-way southpaw graduating in 2016. On the bump, Justin works with quick tempo from the hi 3/4 arm slot. He fills up the zone with 3 different pitches including a knee buckling splitter. As he works to throw in line to the plate with a stronger front side, his pitching stock will rise. At 1B, he fields with consistency and a mature feel. His glove action is clean with smooth DP feeds. Justin brings a ton of energy to 1B and will see improvement as he develops arm strength and foot speed. At the plate, this LHH uses all fields from a square, athletic setup. He lets the ball travel and tracks it with his quiet eyes. He displays power potential from his strong hands and mature approach. Overall, Justin is a talented player that will see success on the diamond in his upcoming season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
