Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Justin continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he showed as a switch hitter but projects best as a RHH. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At 3B, he displays proper footwork as he works to square balls up. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He shows tailing action but slows arm speed, tipping off the pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/12/2017 - College PREP - Middletown (Hartford), CT Justin is a strong, 2-way player who plays 3B and RHP. He currently projects best at 3B, showing active/fluid footwork, agile movements, and soft/sure hands. Justin fields athletically, has a smooth transfer, and throws with accuracy from a quick arm action toward his target. Defense can improve with more energy, following throws toward his target, and added arm strength. On the mound, Justin has good size, a clean arm circle, and a controlled landing. He has good direction toward his target, and mixes his off-speed in well. Abilities on the mound can improve if Justin can use mower lower body, sharpen off-speed, and add velocity. Offensively, Justin is a strong hitter with a good base, proper load, and rhythmic swing. He has fast bat speed, a direct barrel to the ball, and he makes consistent contact. More lower 1/2, and letting the ball travel deeper can help hitting further improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
