07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Kaena is hardworking catching prospect who graduates in 2022. As a left-handed hitter, Kaena has a square, athletic stance with a centered balance and firm front side. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and closed stride. Kaena has a good approach with an on-plane swing path. He consistently lands the barrel to the baseball producing square contact. Kaena is a contact type hitter who has a line drive approach. Behind the plate, Kaena has an effective approach and tracks the ball well. He stays square to the pitcher and moves with quiet actions. Kaena receives the ball with soft hands and he has a clean exchange. He has a short arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has good momentum through his release showing accurate, strong throws to 2B. Overall, Kaena has a solid approach on both sides of the ball and potential to improve his game with development.

01/21/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Kaena is an athletic catcher with good skills. Behind the plate, Kaena has quick feet, soft hands, and he sits in low and athletically. He keeps the ball in front when blocking, his exchange is quick, and Kaena throws with accuracy from a short arm action. Offensively, Kaena has a square set-up, a short stride, and he swings in good rhythm. He repeats his swing and can hit to all fields. Kaena will improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
