08/17/2014 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Kaeo continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are aggressive and he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hands more out front and increase foot quickness. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 87 mph at the arm strength station with throws displaying life, accuracy, and on line carry. At the plate, he displays strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path with hitting grade continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. On the mound, he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 82 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-82 mph with quality off speed pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches.

10/16/2013 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Castaneda continues to show as a RHP/1B, projecting best on the mound for the next level where he has a big upside. Delivery is solid, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 75-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and gradual break. He throws a slider with short / sharp break and tight spin. Off speed pitches are solid and will get outs at the next level. Command / control are outstanding as well as he throws strikes with all his pitches to both sides of the plate and changes speeds well. He had 4 quality innings at the event. At 1B, feet are active as he works to square balls up, moves well to glove side, and displays soft / clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks ground balls, plays through and presents hands more out front. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick and work through an uphill swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays with high energy and is a good teammate.

07/24/2013 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 14-18) Kaeo is an athletic RHP/1B that will graduate in 2015. Delivery is sound and repeatable, allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 74-79 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Off speed pitches show as quality pitches at the next level. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.55 60 time. At 1B, feet are active as he moves well laterally and displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver showing clean hands. Glove action is soft /sure as he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He Shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 3 for 9. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Kaeo shows a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
