12/16/2018 - College PREP - El Paso, TX Kai continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.39 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Throws are accurate with zip (84 mph velocity) and on line carry through his target. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an open / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Kai is a wiry C/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.11-2.23 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He sticks balls well in the zone through the receiving process. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner. At the plate, he shows a squared with balance setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick and work through swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 2 years to further develop, Kai has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
