12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Kaipo is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect that was eager to learn. Behind the dish, Kaipo starts in an athletic primary stance, he presents a low/early glove, and works behind the ball. When blocking he leads with his glove, he creates a good angle over the ball, and has good lateral mobility. When throwing, Kaipo has a strong arm and good throwing mechanics. At the plate, Kaipo starts in an athletic and crouched stance. He loads his hands back, he attacks the inside part of the ball, and looks to hit the ball gap to gap. He needs to continue to rotate his backside and keep his head down at contact. On the bump, Kaipo has good mound presence, he finds a balance point, and separates on time. He needs to continue to ride his back leg down hill and finish over the front side. Kaipo will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/11/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Kaneohe (Honolulu), HI Kaipo is a young, 2-way player who catches and pitches. Behind the plate, Kaipo tracks well and his footwork is efficient. He sits in easy, hands are strong, and his exchange is quick; throwing with momentum and accuracy to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 2.6 seconds. On the mound, Kaipo has a loose arm circle, he separates his hands on time, and he has a square/controlled landing toward the plate. Offensively, Kaipo has a tall/open stance, a short stride, and good balance. He has fast bat speed, good bat whip, and pop potential. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Behind the plate, Kaipo shows proper blocking footwork and centers the ball in the middle of his body. He sits in a square stance and receives with a firm glove. He throws from a 3/4 angle and works to keep his throws accurate to the 2B bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a square stride. He takes a level swing and leads well with his lower half, producing solid contact to his pull side. On the mound, Kaipo shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 60mph. Breaking ball sits from 40-46mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 47-48mph. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
