09/20/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Lewiston, ME Kaleb continues to work hard on his skills. Defensively, he hustles and works hard into a square fielding position. He makes the backhand play smoothly, has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws across the diamond. Presenting his glove, fielding the ball more out in front and playing through the ball toward his target will help to improve his skills at SS. With the bat, Pepin has active hands and gets loaded. He takes an aggressive hack and works to drive the ball back up the middle of the field. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path with increase bat speed will help to increase pop off of his barrel. On the mound, FB now tops out at 77 mph while showing some run & tail with late life. Curveball has 11/5 shape while changeup shows tail and is thrown with FB arm speed. He pounds the zone throwing strikes with all of his pitches. Finishing with more extension on his follow through will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. A 2017 grad - Kaleb still has time to develop his tools and gain strength with physical maturity.

07/30/2015 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Pepin continues to show as a SS/RHP at the event and has improved his baseball abilities. Defensive grade in the MIF have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works to square balls up and makes the routine plays. Hands / feet work well through the fielding process. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hands more out front and gets more reps. At the plate, he shows an closed setup and loads up well as he gets into a strong launch position. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-72 mph with arm side run and sink. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape and display cutting action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be with a lot of energy.

06/30/2015 - College PREP - Rindge, NH Kaleb showed as a 5'9/130 lbs SS/RHP in his first Factory outing. On the mound, he threw his FB from 73-75, spun an 11/5 CB with flashes of tight spin at 65-69, and threw a sinking CH from 72-73. Mechanically, he repeated his actions, was compact in his delivery, and had clean arm action. He extended out in front and got his chest over his front knee to finish. Offensively, he was aggressive to take hacks and stayed inside the baseball well. More hand activation and more consistent timing will boost hit and power ability. Defensively at short, he made plays and threw with accuracy. He controlled his body fairly well, and with increased foot speed / lateral movement will be able to make more plays right and left. In all - Kaleb is a young player that has another two years of high school to build strength and consistency on the diamond in preparation for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
