01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Kaleb continues to shine on the diamond. He is a leader and takes charge on the diamond. Behind the dish, he sits in well with a strong base and athletic actions. He takes good angles laterally to body up pitches in the dirt off of soft chest. Transfer/exchange is smooth as he gains ground working low out of his setup and in-line toward 2B. Pop times remain in the low 2's as he puts the ball on the bag. As a hitter - Thompson has rhythm and gets loaded into a strong launch position. He takes an aggressive hack, squaring the ball up and creating hard contact consistently (going 3 for 5 with 2 singles, a double and a walk). Kaleb makes things happen when he steps onto the field and will play at a high level.

11/15/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Pearland, TX Kaleb continues to show as a C/OF and continues to improve his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.47 runner. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now showing outstanding hitting / power abilities through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed and through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. Behind the plate, pop times where in the low 2.00 range as he gets rid of the baseball quickly through a quick release. Throws display accuracy and on line carry through his target. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. In the OF, he utilizes his foot quickness as he moves well laterally, covering ground, and displaying range in the OF. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Hands feet work well together through the fielding process.

05/10/2015 - College PREP - College Station, TX Kaleb continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the dish, he has athletic actions and moves quickly around pitches in the dirt. Throws to 2B are accurate coming from a quick exchange as pop times are now at 2.00. Offensively, this righty works back into a loaded position with some leverage. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2, whips the barrel through the zone and connects with strength. He squares the ball up consistently and uses the whole field. Thompson has skills with a bright future ahead of him.

07/29/2014 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Kaleb continues to show a ton of potential both offensively and defensively. Behind the plate, pop times were in the low 2.00 range with accuracy, life, and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play well at the next level. Hands are soft / sure as he is an outstanding receiver. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and wants to learn as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

05/18/2014 - National Tryout - San Antonio, TX Kaleb continues to show as a catcher and has improved his abilities behind the plate. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.00. Receiving / blocking skills show as well above average tools that will play well at the next level. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting grades and power numbers have improved as well through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered.

05/19/2013 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Kaleb is a 2017 C/3B that excels behind the dish. He is square in his setup and has quick feet. He receives with sure hands and has a quick exchange, with pop-times around 2.3 sec. Thompson takes good lateral angles to block and is quick to recover/throw. A throwing/long toss program will help strengthen his arm and drop his pop-times. At the hot corner, he has quick feet, squares balls up and has a quick release. Kaleb is very athletic at third and generates carry on his throws. Offensively, he makes consistent contact with good barrel accuracy and a strong bat angle. As a rising freshman, Thompson will be able to build on his sound fundamentals and potentially be a very special high school player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
