09/24/2021 - MS All-Region Tournament Kanyon continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 1B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean and he presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through a closed setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament Kanyon is a skilled, R/R 2-way player who excels at the plate. With the bat, this righty shows a tall/open stance with centered balance and rhythm to load. Loose hands whip the barrel to and through the zone as he connects and creates hard contact, driving the ball gap-to-gap (exit velocity = 84 mph). At 1B, he shows active prep and hustles into a square fielding position behind the GB. He works well around the 1B bag and adjusts his feet to throws up and down the line. On the mound, this righty throws a FB & CB from a 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, keeps his eyes on the target and repeats his delivery well. FB tops out at 63 mph while showing slight tail. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape. Getting on a long toss program will aid in developing arm strength and increasing FB velocity. Only a 2025 grad - Kanyon has tools with upside and still a lot of time to progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
