06/19/2023 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Kapono continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, defensive abilities have improved as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls but needs to play through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

07/16/2022 - Baseball Factory Los Angeles All Star Experience (Ages 12-14) Kapono is a class of 2026 SS/RHP prospect. In the field, he showed very good range laterally. Did a good job of using his hands to field low and out front. Showed very agile feet. At the plate, he showed an advanced approach that focused on driving the ball to the middle of the field. Started in a tall and open stance. Did a good job using his lower ½ throughout the swing. Showed very good barrel control. On the mound, he showed feel for all 3 of his pitches. FB was best pitch with slight cutting actions. Threw all pitches from a High ¾ arm slot. Kapono is a good prospect that we hope to see again in the future.

07/22/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (MS) Kapono is a SS/RHP is the class of 2026. In the field, he shows an athletic setup and plays on the balls of his feet. Uses active footwork to expand his range and help take him to balls hit laterally from him. Plays fast and downhill. Showed off accurate throws but could see big benefits from a throwing program to help improve his arm strength. At the plate, he starts in an open stance with loose hands. Tries to activate his lower 1/2 in his load. Does a good job rotating through the baseball and shows off a line drive approach. On the mound, he used a 3 pitch mix to help keep hitters off balance. Delivered all pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot. Threw 58% of his pitches for strikes in game action. Kapono is a good player with an excellent attitude that we expect to see continue to develop as he matures.

Baseball Factory Denver All-Star Experience (12-14) Kapono is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate high in 2026. Young developing player who has lean build, with some strength present, and plenty of time to add to his frame as he matures. At SS, starts with a relaxed ready position and athletic actions. Creates good angles and fields from a low fielding position. Ability to pick out hops, with a 2-hand field, and a good glove angle. Keeps his eyes behind his glove and has a clean transfer. Short arm action in back as he works into a low 3/4 arm slot coming forward. Creates momentum, with accurate throws across diamond, and had an arm velocity of 62mph. On the mound, a right-handed pitcher who works exclusively from the stretch with good direction down the mound. He gets to a good balance point and picks up target early. Strike thrower who threw 72% strikes in live game action. In 2 innings of work vs high school aged hitters, Kapono surrendered no runs and struck out 3 batters. He works off of a FB that sits 61-63mph, a 9/3 shaped breaking ball, and a CH he throws with FB arm speed and some sinking action in the zone. Has good feel for the CH. At the plate, he hits from an upright and open stance. Simple/repeatable swing, with good balance, and gets extended out front. Made consistent contact as he sprayed balls to all fields. In live game action, he reached base on 2 singles and an error with a bat exit velocity of 60mph. With continued growth and development, it is easy to see Kapono having a good career at the high school level and possibly beyond.

06/20/2021 - All-In Membership - Honolulu, HI Kapono is a lean RHP/SS who will graduate in 2026. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Fastball shows a range of 53-57 mph with sinking action. He maintains are speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases his foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 5 years to further develop, Kapono has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
