03/12/2015 - Yankees Spring Training Experience Karl is a versatile, 2-way player (RHP/SS) who can make things happen. On the mound, he works through simple/repeatable mechanics with smooth rhythm/tempo. FB ranges from 62-64 mph as he commands the zone, working the ball to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball is effective with 11/5 shape as he throws it with FB arm-speed. He attacks hitters and throws strikes. At SS, Karl showed his athleticism with the ability to cover some ground in the INF. He has a clean exchange and fires strong/accurate throws across the diamond. Working around the GB more (from right to left) will help to improve defensive abilities. With the bat, Karl has bat speed as he can connect and drive the ball with pop. When centered, he crushes the ball to the gaps. Developing a more relaxed grip (top hand) will help to improve consistency on his swing path. Karl is a talented player with a bright future ahead of him.

02/15/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Sanford (Orlando), FL Karl is a young, 2-way player as a RHP/3B. On the mound, he has a 4-pitch arsenal coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has good glove-side lead and works in-line toward the plate. FB ranges from 64-66 mph while showing some sink. He has plus command and works the corners well. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with gradual actions. At the hot corner, Karl hustles into a square fielding position and tracks the ball into his mitt. He has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws across the diamond. With the bat, this RHH shows an open stance with a solid base. He has rhythm to load and waits back for his pitch. He engages his lower 1/2 and pulls the pitch on the inside 1/2 with pop. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Finish with extension
Infield
1. Glove presentation
2. Lower fielding position
3. Approach to GB
Offense
1. Relax/loosen grip
2. Shorter/more direct swing path

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
