01/29/2017 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Kekoa is a lean, athletic 2017 SS prospect who looks the part on the field. He is a well-rounded player who can really hit with pop to the pull side and who can also really run. He shows great range in the field both in the hole and up the middle and makes quick DP turns with fast hands. He is athletic to field and has soft hands to pick the ball with a quick release to make strong throws to his target. More backhand reps will make him a complete shortstop. At the dish, he is smooth to load and launch and whips the bat through the zone with fast bat speed. His level swing leads to consistent, hard contact and line drives all over the field. Kekoa is a very exciting prospect who we expect to see playing at the next level.

12/27/2016 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Kekoa continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, defensive abilities are now tremendous as he displays quick, athletic actions. He uses his athletic feet well in his lateral movements displaying range in the MIF. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. Throws display life, accuracy, and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick creating bat speed through a direct / level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 3 for 7. He did show on the mound with fastball showing a range of 76-79 mph with a knuckle ball that has slight sinking action. He shows good tempo through a repeatable delivery. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard on the diamond. Kekoa has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

08/14/2016 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Kekoa is an incoming senior SS that throws and hits from the right side. In the field, Kekoa is smooth and light on his feet working around the ball and fields in a low athletic position. His ability to cover ground puts him in a good position to center the ball properly in his body and maintain momentum through his target. Arm is loose which allows his throws to carry well and remain online to his target. In the box, he stands athletic and square putting himself in a good position to track the ball with both eyes and be on time with every pitch. His early, easy separation allows for his hands to work short and quick to the ball with the ability to spray the ball. Overall Kekoa is 2017 grad with a full season to continue to progress which will catch eyes of many college programs.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
