07/28/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Spokane, WA Kellen is an athletic catching prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Kellen is quick moving to block and keeps the ball in front of him. He sits in an athletic stance and sticks the ball well. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws on-line to the 2B bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a short swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and gap to gap pop. Overall, Kellen is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

07/26/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Kellen is a coachable C/1B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the National World Series at Pirate City. Behind the plate, Kellen presents a good target and receives well. He replaces his feet to throw and keeps his throws accurate to the 2B bag. Sitting in a more athletic stance can help Kellen improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is fluid getting his hands activated in his load and takes a level swing. He rotates his core well and produces solid gap to gap pop. Kellen can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. Overall, Kellen is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

05/12/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Spokane, WA Kellen is a strong and lean 2021 catching prospect. Behind the dish, Kellen presents a low target, works behind the ball, and presents the ball well post impact. When throwing, Kellen has a proper exchange, efficent footwork, and makes throws to the right side of the bag. When blocking, Kellen leads with his glove, controls the ball with his chest, and tracks the ball into his body. At the plate, Kellen starts in a tall stance, creates separation in his load, and attacks the inside part of the ball. He hits off a firm front side and drives the ball to the pull side. Kellen will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Kellen is a tall, athletic 1B who will graduate in 2021. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, spraying to all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls through a low approach. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 3 years to further develop, Kellen has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
