01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Kenny is a solid (6'2"/215) catcher who can swing it. As a hitter, this strong righty steps into the box looking to do damage. Hands are loose and quick, whipping the barrel to and through the zone with speed. He connects with pop and sends the ball screaming (exit velocity = 91 mph). Behind the dish, he sits in well and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. He moves well laterally and works to center pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Throws to 2B are on the bag with pop times remaining in the low 2's. Tanaka possesses the tools that will translate well into the next level of play.

10/10/2018 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Kenny continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. He had a tremendous week at the plate where he continues to show best. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 4 for 8. Behind the dish, he shows an athletic setup. Glove action is soft / quiet and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process in getting down quickly and utilizes his body well.

07/04/2018 - Under Armour Firecracker Classic 18U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Kenny continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are quick in gaining ground through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.10 range with time continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a solid setup and sticks balls well in the zone and utilizes his body well through the blocking process. He shows great leadership traits behind the dish. At 1B, he displays smooth fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he and displays proper foot work around the bag. Glove action is soft, presents well out front and consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine. Hands are strong and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable, and plays the game hard.

06/15/2018 - USA Baseball 17U Championships Kenny continues to shine on the diamond. Hands / feet work well together through his transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.13 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will contin-ue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft and clean as he sticks balls well in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (94 mph exit velocity) as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. Mental makeup is a plus as he works hard and is very coachable. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

06/02/2018 - 2018 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Kenny continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he continues to show best as a RHH. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped (91 exit velocity) through the zone as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.25 range with times continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Kenny is a very good offensive catching prospect in the 2019 grad class. Does a nice job defensively, present a good target, receives very well and will earn strikes for his pitchers. Blocks the baseball very well and showed the ability to anticipate balls in the dirt and attack the spot and beat the ball there to center and control rebounds. Works inline to his target on throws and showcased a nice 2.07s release time to 2nd base. Kenny excels offensively, has great balance and utilizes a very strong lower half. Swings explosively through the ball with a line drive approach (94mph exit velocity), keeps his hands inside the ball and is patient to use all fields. A plus Catcher offensively, Kenny, with time to still develop even more might fit in nicely at a high level program in college.

10/18/2017 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Kenny continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active and he works in line to his target through a quick transfer / exchange. Pop times have improved when he threw his lowest pop time to date at 2.10. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and on line carry to his throws. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft / quiet and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process in getting down quickly and utilizes his body well. At the plate, he shows an open / athletic setup. Hands are quick (98 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the baseball, utilizing all fields through with gap-to-gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he makes consistent hard contact. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/19/2017 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Kenny is a talented catching prospect who is a polished offensive prospect and graduates in 2019. As a right-handed hitter, Kenny has an open, athletic stance with a firm front side and centered balance. He has smooth rhythm with his load and a short, square stride. Kenny shows fast bat speed with an on-plane swing path and gets good extension at contact. He has an aggressive approach and produces hard contact with the ball jumping off his bat. Kenny has a line drive approach and the power to drive the ball to each gap. Behind the plate, Kenny has an effective setup and tracks the ball well. He presents a low target and receives the ball with soft hands. Kenny throws from a high 3/4 arm slot showing consistently online throws down to 2B. Overall, Kenny is a well-rounded prospect who has high potential to make an impact at the next level.

06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Kenny continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all field with gap-to-gap. At the event, he was 6 for 10 with 2 2B. Behind the plate, pop times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills have improved and show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
