Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament This tall/athletic 2-way player continues to show well as he did so again during his time at the All-America Pre-Season Tournament. On the mound, this reliable righty toes the rubber with a purpose. He maintains fluid rhythm throughout his delivery, gets to a controlled balance point and drives downhill in-line toward the dish. FB has good run as hitters have a hard time squaring it up. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with good action - complimenting his FB well. He attacks the zone and challenges hitters. At 3B - Kent has active prep and takes good angles around the GB. He gathers smoothly and has a clean exchange with a cannon across the diamond. As a hitter - Bonner stands in well with good balance rhythm in his hands. He hits the ball where it's pitch with the ability to use the entire field. Kent has a ton of upside and will play at a high level.

07/29/2015 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Kent continues to shine on the diamond. This athlete can make things happen in many different ways on the diamond. As a RHP, he had 2 very effective outings. He challenges hitters with 3 different pitches and mixes them well, pounding the zone with strikes. FB cracks the mitt at 84 mph while showing some sink, which resulted in a lot of GB outs. He gets good glove-side lead and tuck, working in-line toward the dish. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with tight spin when he stays on top of it. At 3B, he is aggressive and comes to get the GB. He has soft hands with the ability to pick it. Exchange is smooth as he fires missiles (87 mph) across the diamond. As a hitter, Bonner stands in well with good balance. He has active hands and works back into a strong loaded position. He fires the barrel with speed and connects with authority, showing power to all parts of the field. Kent is a versatile player who will make an impact with his all-around tools.

03/15/2015 - College PREP - Waco, TX Kent showed well with his 6'4/185 lbs frame at his most recent Baseball Factory outing. On the hill, he threw his FB, his 11/5 CB, and his CH with decent feel around the zone. Mechanically, he gathered himself over the rubber, separated on-time, and delivered with clean arm action and front side extension. He worked over his front side and finished with his chest over his front knee. His pitchability and overall feel on the bump was impressive and suggests sound projection. Finding a more productive pace within his delivery, gathering balance with more control, then delivering - will boost velo and control. In all - Kent is an extremely athletic hurler that has another year two add strength and consistency for next level play.

06/21/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Kent is a 2016 two-way player that showed good actions on both sides of the ball. Defensively at 3B, he made plays with efficient feet and body control. He was sure handed and had a good idea of backhand footwork. His throws had carry with flashes of life, as he hit 88 on the radar gun. Working lower in his fielding position and quickening his feet are essential for next level play. Offensively, he was aggressive at the plate generating good bat speed to and through contact. He demonstrated pop when he was on-time with his launch. On the mound, he threw two-pitches with good feel, topping out at 83 MPH with the FB, and spinning an 11/5 CB with good bite at 63-64. He has a long/lengthy frame that projects on the mound, with loose/free arm action. All in all - Kent is a good prospect with an easy going attitude and respectful personality.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
