Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

08/03/2014 - National Tryout - Dublin (Columbus), OH Kevin continues to show as 3B/RHP at the event and has improved his baseball abilities. Defensive grade has improved as he shows smooth / athletic actions. He moves well laterally to both sides. Hands / feet work well together and he makes the routine plays. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hands more out front and increases foot quickness. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he hitting / power grades have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and through a simple swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive type approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half and adds overall body strength. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-75 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a feel for with arm side run and sink and shows as a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Kevin has abilities with time and room to improve.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City KJ is a talented, young 2-way player as a RHP/3B. On the bump, he has a 3-pitch mix who has a good feel for his stuff. FB tops out at 75 mph and there is more in the tank. Breaking ball shows to be his best pitch, with late break and is a good out pitch. KJ shows confidence in his change-up and maintains good FB arm-speed. More lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber will help to generate more velocity on his FB. Defensively at the hot corner, Scheppler presents his glove out in front as he works into a square fielding position. He has a clean exchange and fires accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, this righty lets the ball travel into the zone as he waits for his pitch. He barrels up the ball consistently, putting the ball in play. More aggressiveness will help to improve offensive abilities. KJ is a coachable player who is a good teammate and is one to keep and eye on on the mound.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
