09/27/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures West Kevin is a very talented young pitching prospect who really is what coaches and scouts look for. He has a tall, lean frame with long legs and good flexibility and athleticism. His arm works free and easy and he generates very good arm speed from a low effort delivery. He accelerates through release and finishes his pitches extremely well. His extension makes it look like he is handing the ball to the catcher and allows his upper 80s fastball to play up, getting on top of hitters in a hurry. His best off-speed offering is currently his change that comes out of the hand just like his FB with a 10-15mph differential and some late tail. Kevin also throws a curve with 11-5 shape and tight rotation. That pitch flashes late bite though doesn't yet have the consistency needed. The body, arm and repertoire remind us of Kevin Gausman at a similar age. This Kevin has the same type of ceiling - it will be exciting to watch him develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
