Official Scouting Report

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Kevin again showed very good infield skills during his time at the UA Preseason All-America. In the INF, his hands and feet work very well together, and he plays in rhythm. Kevin has soft hands, athletic motions, and a strong / accurate arm across the diamond. Offensively, Kevin has good balance and bat speed. He is a strong hitter, with a good base, and pop in his bat. Kevin gets good extension to and through the baseball and can drive the ball into the gaps. Better back-side rotation, and barrel accuracy can help solid offensive numbers become even better.

08/06/2009 - Under Armour All-America Game 2009 A big, strong frame that produces some raw power from the right side of the plate. He shows a simple, quiet approach in the box that leads to consistent hard contact. He has good hands in the field to go along with a solid throwing arm and he runs a 7.2-second 60-yard dash. Kevin also participated in the UA Pre-Season All America and is Committed to LSU.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Kevin is a two position guy with well above average offensive tools. In the infield, his hands work well…good extension and soft on the catch. Shows some polish on the double play turn. Would like to see him stay down all the way through the play. Doesn't get cheated at the plate. He has some life in his hands and plus balance and body control. Overall, good feel for the barrel. Showed the ability to keep his hands back on offspeed stuff in game ab's. Had 3 hits—including a homerun—in 6 plate appearances. Showed ability on the mound as well with a sinking fastball in the 84-88 range and a good looking slurve-type breaker. Good arm speed and some fade to his changeup as well. Delivery is easy and athletic. Good feel for all of his pitches and works down in the zone—an interesting arm. Very good overall prospect.

12/07/2008 - College PREP - McCook, IL Kevin is a tall, athletic two position guy with above average tools across the board. He is easy and out in front in the infield with good lateral range and movement, and solid glovework. Would like to see him stay down through the play. His arm is easy, and he gets plenty of life and carry on his throws. At the plate, he is square and balanced and gets pretty good extension. He starts wrapped which makes his barrel accuracy less consistent, but he has some life in that barrel when he squares it up. Uses the whole field effectively. On the mound, he sits in the 85-87 MPH range with good arm side run. He throws a split with late, hard bite, and his change is pretty good with occasional run and sink as well. He utilizes good separation and direction, and a strong lower half as well. Would like to see his extension improve and for him to stay over his back side longer, but he has some real athletic ability and a chance to be a good player at both spots at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
